Knowing When To Change
Micah and Canaan spent a couple days at the CIY Believe conference in St Charles. When they returned, they were both exhausted (and a little hyped up on sugar). Micah was especially grumpy, and that usually triggers a meltdown. As we walked in the door at home, I said "I think you need to just take a shower and go to bed". He lost it. There were tears, and he kept saying "but I want to watch something on TV before I go to bed". I know some may be reading this and think "What a brat!". But you have to understand Micah. He has never done well with transitions. He doesn't like change. A schedule is important to him. He is very high energy and he doesn't sleep well at night. He has a terrible time going to sleep, and gets frustrated that he can't sleep. So what did we do? We changed the plan. He took a shower and we watched a TV show. He was sound asleep on the couch just 20 minutes in to it. He simply needed that time to unwind.
