Micah and Jayden received some roller skates around Christmas time and have been skating around the house for quite a while. I decided it was probably time to take them to the skating rink. Micah got right out there, fearless as usual. Jayden was timid at first, mainly because of the number of people, but it didn't take long for her to get comfortable. Josiah was impressed that he was doing so well since he hadn't been on a pair of skates for quite some time. But Canaan was a little trying. You see, there are not many things that don't come easily for Canaan; and when he got out there and realized he couldn't instantly skate, he was crushed. He was focusing on what he couldn't do, instead of what he could. Tim finally asked him how many times he had fallen. He replied "none". So Tim said "then you haven't tried to skate yet. Go out there and fall down a few times". How similar is that to life? We want to be comfortable, we want things to come easy, but we can never truly accomplish anything until we are willing to take the risk, fall a few times, and learn from our mistakes.
